Embroidered Vintage Textile Coin Bag
One of a kind from vintage north indian textiles. Durable canvas lining with three pockets. 19.5 wide at top. Each handbag is handmade with embroidered textiles from the nomadic tribes of pakistan and north india (gujarat, rajasthan, and punjab). These styles of embroidery are called banjara, which means gypsy or nomad, and showcase the fine needlework and characteristic patterns, mirror work, and themes indigenous to each tribal region. Nomadic girls are taught from a young age to embroider clothing, camel costumes, and decorative wall hangings. She presents these items to her new mother-in-law on her wedding day. It is these vintage embroideries + some newer pieces that are carefully sewn together and further embellished with mirrors, tassels, and vintage coins to make each bag truly one of a kind. Anokhi green supports the work of operation shanti, an orphanage for street kids in mysore, karnataka (south india). A portion of the chicago ooak show sales will be donated to operation shanti to pay school tuition this coming year. This item is made of vintage textile.
